Top 10 Freelance Sites to Find Freelance Writing Work

For those planning on earning an extra passive income, freelance writing, I have composed a list of the best freelance sites on the internet. Lots of people nowadays are looking for an extra source of income and frankly, who can blame them. Times are changing as the economy fluctuates. I am seeing many people trying to switch to a better, stay-at-home working situation. For those of you who don't know, this CAN be achieved.

Freelance writing has become one of the most popular means of earning income online. There are lots of websites in which a writer can earn a healthy income. One of the many advantages of freelance writing is the very real possibility to make a living doing it. Many websites pay upfront payments for articles while other sites pay a percentage of their advertising revenue, potentially creating passive earnings. In this list you will see a mixture of the two, and what I believe to be the best freelance sites around. Keep in mind, these are not in any particular order. Enjoy.

1. Hubpages

   Hubpages has probably got to be my favorite site in terms of comfort and passive income earning potential. The more you write, the better chance you get paid. Hubpages actually doesn't pay you anything to write for them. You're really getting paid by Google Adsense, Amazon, or other affiliate sites of your choice in order for them to place there ads on your hubs. You are then paid every time someone clicks those ads. Hubpages allows you to keep 60% of your total advertising revenue while they keep the remaining 40%. The great thing about this is that Hubpages sustains a great amount of traffic on a daily basis, so all you have to do is nudge them your way. I plan on using Hubpages for many years to come and to it's fullest potential. I highly recommend this site to anyone trying to create a passive income or those who simply love to write.

   Associated Content or “AC” is another great freelance site that pays both upfront and performance, meaning you'll keep getting paid for your work overtime. The only downside to AC would have to be the very low upfront pay rates, usually only paying a couple dollars per article. The key to maximizing profits on this site is to write, write, write and focus on driving traffic to your articles, making them more valuable.

   
   

3. Textbroker

   
   

   Textbroker is one of my favorite freelance sites to write for. This site offers a great way to actually make a living if your dedicated. Textbroker only pays upfront payments ranging anywhere from $2.00 to $15.00 per article. Payments are based on each writer's rank, with ranks going from 1 to 5 stars. The higher your rank, the more you get paid to write certain articles. The best part about Textbroker is that you can can write whenever you please, choosing from tons of topics. I use this site whenever I need to make a quick 50 or 100 bucks. Just be sure not to copy any content and make sure to follow the article instructions. You will need a good writing sample which will determine your rank when you sign up. (Highly recommended site)

   
   

4. Bukisa

Bukisa is not necessarily one of the best freelance sites out there but they do offer a couple good features. Their payments are very low do to the fact that they only pay for views, no affiliates, revenue sharing. So why would anyone want to join Bukisa? There are two reasons. The first is to possibly drive click-though traffic to your other articles such as hubs. The second is Bukisa'a outstanding referral system. Bukisa has one of the best referral programs i've seen. Here is an example of their referral system.

Tier 1 – 25%

Tier 2 – 6.25%

Tier 3 – 1.5%

This alone could make you tons of money if you can perfect it. In fact, this refferal program is the sole reason that Bukisa made this list. This is definitely as site worth checking out.

   Triond is one of my personal favorites, being that you have full control over what you write. There are no topics to choose from and basically no real criteria. Triond pays for virtually any type of media including writing, photos, and video. This makes Triond a great choice for the beginning writer. Just don't expect your earnings to be too impressive until you've secured a very high amount of traffic to your writing. Triond pays a percentage of their advertising revenue, very much similar to Hubpages. There is also a great community awaiting you at Triond.

   Helium is another good freelance site which pays a percentage of advertising revenues to the writers much like Hubpages (although not as much). Helium accepts all forms of writing as long as you choose from certain topics. Your writing is then reviewed by other members of the site. This sometimes makes it difficult for your articles to rank high since your writing is critiqued based upon personal opinion instead of real editors. Your success with Helium is based solely on how much you choose to write. There are lots of writers however, who make a great living writing for Helium which in my opinion, makes it worth giving it a try.

   
   

3. Demand Studios

   
   

   Demand Studios is probably the closest thing you'll find to a “real job”, if you get in. In order to write for this very prestigious company, you'll need to provide a resume, two writing samples, and fill out the online application. They will then send you an email of either acceptance or rejection. If you happen to be fortunate enough to get in, then you've just found a great work at home opportunity. Demand Studios pays upfront payments usually ranging around $8.00 to $20.00 per article. It is very possible to great a decent living writing for this company. (Highly recommended)

   Bright Hub is another great freelance site that comes very close to an actual job. Bright Hub pays pretty high, flat rates if your in the right channel, along with revenue sharing. In order to apply, you'll need a good writing sample to secure your spot. Bright Hub mainly focuses on science and technology based articles and reviews, so if thats your cup of tea, then Bright Hub is right for you.

   
   

5. Squidoo

   
   

   Upon joining Squidoo, you will gain the title, “lensmaster”. On squidoo, you will create custom pages filled with advertising, called lenses, much like hubpages. Squidoo pays writers 50% of their advertising revenue and donates 5% to charity. Squidoo also provides the absolute best community and support I've encountered while writing. This is a site filled with very friendly writer's who love to help others in their goals to succeed. (Highly recommended)

   
   

6. Freelance Writing Gigs

   
   

   Freelance Writing Gigs is a freelance site where clients post what they need written and you, the writer accept or you don't. This is freelance writing in it's purest form. I've seen posts ranging from $10 to $500 per article. Due to this sites huge database, this a great way to popularize your writing. I recommend constantly checking up on this site to see what types of jobs are being posted daily. The first article I wrote for this site payed me $120 upfront.

I have found that the best way to use this list is to combine all of your favorite sites and link them together.

For example, you might mainly write for Hubpages, then you start writing for Squidoo and create backlinks between the two accounts. You may also join Triond to make your work more known to their community and in the mean time while your not writing for them, you stop on over to Textbroker and crank out a couple short articles for some quick bucks.
